The best muck diving in the world is in the Philippines. The best spots are Anilao, Romblon and Dumaguete/Bacong and Dauin, Philippines.

The Dumaguete, Bacong and Dauin are just a few miles away on the same shoreline. Dive sites nearby as well as beautiful Apo Island and Siquijor.

Dauin itself has the most spectacular sites if you love hunting for tiny, cool and weird creatures like nudibranchs. seahorses, so many octopuses and of course frogfish – it is a muck diving paradise.

All the dive sites in Dauin are shore dives and sometimes the entry gets a little rocky. You either walk over to the beach, take a small boat ride or take a short drive to the dive sites which are usually and literally accessed through people’s backyards.

Dive sites are also located in Apo Island which is more of the tropical coral reef type. Apo Island is about a 45 minute boat ride and is famous for being the model for the coral reef exhibit at the Chicago Shedd Aquarium. Siquijor Island is also an hour away with some dive sites but more popular for it’s beaches and other water activities.

Depending on your level check with your dive guides before the dive but apart from getting in and out, most dive sites in Dauin seem pretty beginner-friendly. That said, you will need a love for macro to appreciate them.
